The Ca' Granda From Hospital to University. An artistic and historical Atlas

by Giovanni Agosti and Jacopo Stoppa

Two professors at the University of Milan tell the story of their workplace, presenting a wealth of colour illustrations spanning five centuries of Milanese history. Their starting point is 12 April 1456, when Duke Francesco Sforza laid the foundation ston of the Ospedale Maggiore, a building described by Giorgio Vasari little more than a hundred years later as a "place so well build and so orderly that I believe there is not another one like it in Europe".
